North Star Transport began operation with the singular focus as a freight forwarder into the Alaska market in 1995. However, our experience in Alaska began 20 years earlier in 1975. The owner of North Star Transport moved to a remote Eskimo village - Barrow - where he lived for two years. The experience of living in a remote village environment where survival is dependent on air transportation and seasonal barge service has given us a special respect and empathy for the remote locations of Alaska.
In 1986 the owner established the operation of a major LTL carrier in Anchorage. Working with ship sailing schedules, agency relationships, and organizing an efficient, on-time delivery operation for the state of Alaska presented many challenges. The experience of organizing a major LTL carrier operation in Alaska has provided us with the knowledge and understanding to operate seamlessly with the LTL carriers handling shipments into our Seattle facilities. Since that beginning our business has grown and our customer base has expanded. Our customers have presented us with new opportunities to provide support for their transportation needs. We accepted these new opportunities and they have now blossomed to include service to Hawaii and lower 48 Logistics.
